“It’s not a good situation,” said the teacher at School 8, who measured the temperature himself.

The temperature in the shady part of his classroom came in at 86.5 degrees, he said.

“There is no way the kids can learn. They are wilting,” the teacher said.

Students in School 8 are being dismissed at 1 p.m., and teachers are being dismissed at 1:20 p.m., he said.

A posting on the school district’s website states in part: “All elementary students will be dismissed at 1 pm due to the excessive heat. High school students will be dismissed at their normal early dismissal schedule.”

Daily Voice left a message for the district. CHECK BACK FOR MORE.
