Paterson College Student Dreams Of Breaking Barriers

PATERSON, N.J. – A Muslim college student from Paterson has a big goal, and she is on her way to achieving it.

“My goal is to break the barrier as the first Muslim police officer to wear a hijab here in Paterson,” Huda Shalabi said.

She has already interned with the Paterson Police Department, and will soon start an internship with the Passaic County Sheriff’s Office.

Shalabi will graduate from Berkeley College in May 2018 with a Bachelor’s degree in Justice Studies – Criminal Justice. 

Earlier this month, Shalabi joined other women from law enforcement and the military to share to share her experience with high school students at the third annual “Teen Girls Leadership and Success Summit,” hosted by the Garden State Woman Education Foundation and Oasis, A Haven for Women & Children, in Paterson.
