WAYNE, N.J. – The Garden State Preservation Trust approved a $300,000 matching grant to help Wayne construct a new sports complex on Alps Road, near Paterson Hamburg Turnpike.
The grant money is among nearly $81 million in funding for projects that will enhance the quality of life of people throughout New Jersey, according to a press release from the New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection (DEP).
The funding would come from the DEP’s Green Acres Program, but the legislature still must approve legislation to officially appropriate the funds.
The grant would help Wayne construct new ballfields on a 3.14 acre parcel of land that the township previously acquired with Green Acres assistance, according to the DEP.
The proposed park would feature synthetic turf fields for softball, soccer, lacrosse, field hockey and football, as well as parking lots, according to the DEP.
