Todd Kayal, a father of two, remains paralyzed from the chest down, following the April accident, according to a GoFundMe page created by his sister, Amy Kayal Quinzer.

After three surgeries to stabilize his cervical vertebrae, he has been transferred to the Kessler Institute for Rehabilitation in West Orange, according to Quinzer.

“It is his best chance to regain optimal movement in his arms and hands which remain limited at this time,” she wrote.

As the average expense for the first year of a tetraplegia patient can exceed $1 million, “the road ahead is costly and long,” Quinzer wrote. “Your support will help immensely and relieve the financial burden that this injury incurs.”

As of Monday afternoon, nearly $20,000 had been raised for Kayal.
