Carlos taught judo for over a decade, then transitioned to teaching in middle school this year, his wife of only six months, Charissa Moran, said in the GoFundMe page set up to help deal with medical and other costs.

In its first 15 days, the online fundraising campaign had raised over $27,000, as of Sunday night. Camal Judo, the Woodland Park dojo where Carlos had taught, also held a workout fundraiser earlier this month.

Charissa recounted that Carlos told her, "I did not know I was loved by so many people."
