People who don't know about the Great Notch Inn might just drive right by thinking it's an old house awaiting demolition.

The famed tavern lost some of its property through eminent domain for a state Department of Transportation Highway project, but the bar that's operated since 1939 isn't going anywhere.

The two-phase, $150 million project entails building a road parallel to Route 46 behind the Great Notch that will connect with new roundabouts at Valley Road in Clifton and Rifle Camp Road in Woodland Park, according to the state DOT.

The historic live music venue has always been in Rich Hempel's family.

Yelppers say it's the place to go for rock, bikes and beer.

There's live music most nights and every Monday is an open mic jam.
