But Paterson native Jerry Zaks is directing the show's first-ever run on Broadway alongside Robert De Niro.

The musical is based on the critically-acclaimed play that inspired the classic film.

Zaks has won four Tony Awards, four Drama Desk Awards, two Outer Critics Circle Awards and an Obie Award.

His family escaped Nazi Germany and settled in Paterson. Zaks made his Broadway debut in the original production of Grease as "Kenickie" and appeared in Tintypes in 1980.
