WAYNE, N.J. -- A GoFundMe page has been established to help the family of a Wayne boy who has a rare bone cancer.

So far, the the effort has raised $22,378 for Jake Rudd, a "funny, sweet, tough, kind-hearted and gentle" teen whose been diagnosed with Ewing's sarcoma, a rare bone cancer.

Jake, a lacrosse player, complained of leg pain in April, said the web page. He tried ice, Advil and other remedies, then was taken to an orthopedist and other doctors and hospitals. Utlimately, he was diagnosed with the Ewing's sarcoma on his femur. Biopsies revealed bone marrow, chest nodule and groin lymph nodes were all negative, according to the web page.

His treatment involves chemotherapy to shrink the tumor then surgery to remove the bone and replace it with one from his fibula. A second round of chemotherapy will follow, then a long recovery process.
