Wayne Native Balances Work, Play

POMPTON LAKES, N.J. -- Three jobs, a boyfriend, cute little dog, school and a love to toss back a little wine all add up to a super busy, but fun life for 26-year-old Lauren Shaw of Pompton Lakes.

Shaw, who is a Wayne native and a former star softball pitcher at Ramapo College, might seem crazy to most who struggle to make it through their 9 to 5 jobs, but to the young woman who works as a real estate agent with Realty Executives New Jersey, as a dispatcher for the Upper Saddle River Police Department and a fitness instructor at Beachbody, it's all about living a full life.

"Although I love all three of my jobs, I have to say real estate has become my passion. I started dispatching three-and-half years ago working Monday through Friday on the 3 to 11 p.m., shift and let me tell you, I was bored during the day," she says with a laugh.

So, she decided to take real estate classes and became an agent to fill her days.

"There is no better feeling than telling your buyers they got the home of their dreams, or selling your owner’s lifetime home to a wonderful family," she said. Although it comes with lots of stress, tears and long hours, I would not trade it for the world."

Shaw said real estate is never about the paycheck, but about changing lives, building friendships and meeting amazing people.

She hopes to be able to leave her other jobs one day and open her own brokerage firm. Just this week, she took a step closer to that dream when she learned she ranked 32nd out of almost 300 agents in the entire Realty Executives Company for dollar volume and production the last 12 months.

Her parents, police officer sister, boyfriend and Cockapoo puppy all help keep her sane, she said.

When she's not working, Shaw likes to drink wine, visit wineries, go to the beach, host parties, go the movies and dinner, exercise and read crime novels.

If that's not enough, Shaw is also a fitness fanatic, who says just two years ago she was out of shape and loved to eat anything greasy. With the help of her father, who she says is a cross-fit nut, she said she has learned to love exercise so much so that she teaches classes to help motivate others.

Her advice for getting in shape: "Eat clean, lift heavy, and throw out the scales. Have fun, find an accountability group, and push yourself harder every single day."

Now, just to make sure she isn't bored, Shaw has decided she would like to add life coach to her resume and has gone back to school to get her graduate degree.

Shaw's motto for her busy life is: "When there is a will there is a way! I refuse to let my clients suffer for my busy schedule. Back to how I handle stress…like I said, I love my wine!"
