HACKENSACK, N.J. — The Bergen County Cooperative Library System (BCCLS) has launched a new advertising campaign featuring a family made of Legos and their exploits at the library.

Follow the Buckles family as they browse, borrow, enjoy, and return library materials borrowed from the BCCLS library consortium.

In a series of stop-motion YouTube videos, the aptly titled "Buckles Family" will be promoting events and services at BCCLS libraries. The first video, which debuted April 10, explains what a BCCLS library card can do.

"We wanted to create an initiative that was fun but also educational so that patrons know all of the things BCCLS offers to them," said BCCLS Director of Library Services Arlene Sahraie. "This is a way for people to get excited about their libraries again."

The idea for the Buckles Family came from the BCCLS public relations committee, which is comprised of volunteers from each of BCCLS' 77 libraries in Bergen, Passaic, Hudson and Essex Counties.

Along with videos, the committee has created a website, in-depth backstories for each family member and Facebook and Twitter pages for them to post in.

"We want people to get to know the characters and like them and follow them," Sahraie told Daily Voice.

If all goes according to plan, Sahraie hopes people will associate the Buckles Family with BCCLS the same way they associate Colonel Sanders with KFC or the Geico Gecko with car insurance.

"There is definitely a viral component to this," Sahraie said. "We have grand plans for the adventures of the Buckles Family."
