HAWTHORNE, N.J. -- Candida Cabanacan Yazar, a resident of Hawthorne, died Thursday, March 24. She was 103.
She was born in Leyte, Philippines and lived in Pandacan, a district of Manila for more than 50 years before she moved to New York City in 1976. She also lived in Leonia, Garfield and Hackensack before settling in Hawthorne, where she has lived the past 22 years.
She also was a homemaker, raising eight children and later on in her years, she cared for her grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Lucrecia Ponferrada, Romualdo (Maria) Yazar, Alicia (Virgilio) Agno, Erlinda Yazar, Rosario (Hermingildo) Mojica, Romeo Yazar and Roman Yazar Jr.; her sister, Sister Laura Cabanacan; 14 grandchildren; 22 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
She was predeceased by her husband, Roman Yazar; and her son, Ernesto Yazar.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 1-4 and 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the Boulevard Funeral Home. Her life will be celebrated at a Mass at 9:30 a.m. Wednesday at Saint Anthony Parish in Hawthorne. Final burial will be in Manila, Philippines.
