Louis Sasso, 93, Clifton Resident

CLIFTON, N.J. — Clifton resident Louis Sasso died Tuesday, May 31. He was 93.

A Lodi native, Sasso lived there for 24 years before moving to Garfield for 11 years, then finally settling in Clifton 58 years ago.

He served during World War II in the U.S. Army Air Force and was decorated with the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal, Asiatic-Pacific Campaign Medal and the World War II Victory Medal.

Sasso was a truck driver for more than 35 years, retiring in 1987 from Transcontinental in Clifton.

He was a member of the Teamsters Local 560 in Jersey City, a parishioner of Mt. Virgin Church in Garfield and he volunteered for many years with several handicapped children's organizations.

Sasso is survived by his daughter, Joanne Caccavella and her husband Kevin Sr.; son, Bob Sasso and his wife Debbie; grandson, Kevin Jr. and his wife Niesha; granddaughter, Dawn and her husband Matthew; grandson, Courtney; grandson, Mark and his wife Kerry; great-grandchildren, Gia Marie, Ava Nicole, Jake Matthew, and Mila Elizabeth; 25 nieces and nephews; 25 great-nieces and great-nephews; and six great-great-nieces and great-great-nephews.

Sasso was predeceased by his wife Ann (DeMarco) in 2012; siblings, Nicholas, Fred, and Ray Sasso, Jean Rodasti, Phyllis Amato, Josephine Compher and Rose Sasso; and in-laws, Salvatore and James DeMarco, Fred Scaravelloni, David Brigati, and Helen DeMarco.

Visiting hours will be conducted from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday.

The funeral is schedduled for 10 a.m. Wednesday at the Aloia Funeral Home, followed by an 11 a.m. Mass at Our Lady of Mount Virgin Church, 188 MacArthur Ave., Garfield.

Entombment will take place at Calvary Cemetery, in Paterson.
