PASSAIC, N.J. — A threat that four gunmen would come to Passaic High School and open fire led to a lockdown Tuesday afternoon.

Calls came in around 9:55 a.m. Tuesday to the high school and district administrative offices, Detective Andy White said. An unidentified man said four masked men were going to shoot up the high school, he said.

The school was then placed on lockdown and searched by Passaic police, he said. Officers didn't find any trespassers, White said.

"We want to just stress that the schools are safe," he told Daily Voice. "All the precautions that are set in place by the Passaic school system were met."

The school district will send a notice out to parents telling them what happened Tuesday, White said.

Police continued to investigate the phone number used to make the calls to determine whether it had any connection to a series of school threats made in Bergen County and Clifton last week, he said.
