YOU READ IT HERE FIRST: A 35-year-old Newark woman was conscious when she was taken to St. Joseph’s Regional Medical Center after being struck by a pickup truck on Route 46 in Elmwood Park just before 4 p.m., authorities said.
Lynn Slocum, of Newark was struck by a 2004 Toyota Tundra while crossing the highway to a motel on the eastbound side after getting off a bus on the westbound side, Police Chief Michael Foligno told CLIFFVIEW PILOT .
“There’s no crosswalk there, no traffic light,” Foligno said. “She popped out in an area where drivers aren’t used to seeing a pedestrian.”
Witnesses told police that the 46-year-old driver from Paterson “had no time to react,” the chief said.
As a result, no summonses were issued, he said.
Westbound Route 46 was temporarily closed at River Drive.
