Acting on a tip, members of the city's Criminal Warrant Unit -- along with those from the U.S. Marshal’s Regional Fugitive Task Force -- surrounded a Redwood Avenue residence around 6 a.m., Police Director Jerry Speziale said Tuesday night.

In a second-floor apartment they found their quarry -- 25-year-old Marcus Martinez, who's been wanted in connection with a shooting incident in Puerto Rico in the summer of 2015, Speziale said.

Martinez, who was taken into custody without incident, will remain in the Passaic County Jail pending extradition proceedings, he said.

Police arrested four other people wanted on warrants -- for crimes ranging from domestic violence to aggravated assault -- during the early-morning initiative, Speziale said.

"The Criminal Warrant Unit will continue to work with our county, state, and federal partners in an effort to remove violent criminals from our community," the director said.
