Garfield, Paterson Pair Charged In Killing Of Fair Lawn Gas Attendant

PATERSON, N.J. – Authorities have charged two 21-year-olds – one from Garfield, the other from Paterson – with participating in a robbery that became a cold-blooded killing of a Silk City gas station attendant from Fair Lawn.

Dennis Barrett of Paterson and George Martinez of Garfield were due for a first appearance Friday afternoon in Superior Court in Paterson, Passaic County Prosecutor Camelia M. Valdes and Paterson Police Deputy Chief Troy Oswald said.

They were arrested Thursday through what Valdes and Oswald called “the joint and intensive efforts of the detectives of the Major Crimes Unit of the Passaic County Prosecutor’s Office and detectives from the Paterson Police Department.”

Both were charged with felony murder, conspiracy to commit robbery and weapons offenses for the fatal holdup of 57-year-old Ruslan Magamedov at 1st Ave Gas off Route 20 on Monday.

Authorities hadn't yet identified a suspected shooter.
