HALEDON, N.J. -- A fleeing burglar nabbed by Haledon police committed a hit and run moments earlier, authorities said.
Sgt. Jessica Funes and Officer John Bonilla were responding to a West Clinton Street burglary call when Bonilla stopped the car, driven by Paul Molli, 38, of Paterson, around 5:30 a.m. Saturday, Lt. George Guzman said.
Molli "had attempted to break into a storage facility of a home improvement business on the 300 block of West Clinton Street" and was carrying burglar tools, Guzman said.
He was charged with burglary, possession of burglary tools and criminal mischief.
Continuing an investigation, Detective Sgt. George Kelly found that Molli has struck a parked vehicle with his car just before the break-in, Guzman said.
Molli was also cited for leaving the scene of a crash and was ordered held in the Passaic County Jail pending court action in Paterson.
"This is another great example of police-community collaboration," Police Chief Angelo Daniele said. "If you see something, say something."
Guzman, meanwhile, asked any other law enforcement agencies investigating similar incidents to contact Detective Sgt. Kelly: (973) 790-4444 .
