The Adams Street victim locked herself in a second-floor bathroom and called police after the 1:45 p.m. break-in on Monday, Detective Lt. Robert Bracken said.
Moments later, Officer Todd Compesi spotted 34-year-old Mohammad Abdeljawad of North Bergen running through a backyard, he said.
Abjeljawad ignored orders to stop and kept running into Paterson, where Clifton Police Officer Robert Suhey cornered him in another yard, Bracken said.
Abjeljawad fought with the officers, resisting arrest, before they subdued him, the lieutenant said.
They later discovered that he’d broken into the second-floor apartment, accompanied by a second burglar who fled in a tan-colored vehicle, he said.
The second man was described as white, in his 20s or 30s, “tall and in shape” and wearing a red-colored jacket or shirt.
Anyone who saw anything or has information that could help investigator is asked to call the Clifton Police Detective Bureau: (973) 470-5908.
Callers can remain anonymous, Bracken said.
