Around 6 p.m. Wednesday, "detectives observed Nelson Vargas exit his residence and enter a gray Honda Pilot and depart the area," Passaic County Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik told Daily Voice on Thursday.

They stopped the vehicle and recovered five prescription pills and $1,720 in suspected drug money, the sheriff said.

A search of his residence turned up nearly 250 more illegal Oxycodone, Oxycontin and Xanax pills, he said.

The total value of the pills on the street was about $6,000, Berdnik said.

Detectives also seized $1,895 in suspected drug proceeds, he said.

Vargas faces a variety of drug charges.
