The reader alerted Officers Eric Blesing and Michael Spadafora to the 2016 Grand Cherokee just before 10 p.m. Wednesday, Sheriff Richard H. Berdnik said.

Spadafora tried to pull it over, but the Jeep kept going, running lights, he said.

The pursuit ended at Mohawk Avenue and North 8th Street, the sheriff said.

The driver, identified as 20-year-old Alex Mejia Abreu, fled but was caught and charged with eluding, resisting and receiving stolen property. A passenger who also bailed was later released without charges.

Police also gave him several summonses.
