Paterson PD: Detectives Track Down Gunman In September Shooting

PATERSON, N.J. -- A "tenacious pursuit of justice" led to the arrest of a man who Paterson police said shot another in the arm last September, authorities said.

Detectives with the U.S. Marshal’s Violent Crime Task Force joined city investigators in tracking down 24-year-old Mark Edwards on Friday after members of the Ceasefire and Warrant units got a tip, Police Director Jerry Speziale said.

Edwards tried to run after they stopped a cab that he'd gotten into at Park Avenue and East 19 Street, but they quickly grabbed him, Speziale said.

Detectives Francisco Brito and Christopher Ravallese of the Ceasefire Unit identified Edwards as the shooter after a man with a gunshot wound turned up at St. Joseph's Regional Medical Center the night of Sept. 27, the director said.

Moments earlier, patrol units went to the area of 12 Avenue and Rosa Parks Boulevard on a “shots fired” activation from the city’s ShotSpotter detection system.

Edwards was being held in the Passaic County Jail pending a bail hearing on charges of attempted murder and weapons offenses.
