Visiting Scheduled For Veteran Passaic Sheriff's Lieutenant, 49

WEST MILFORD, N.J. -- He served in the U.S. Army and for 18 years with the Passaic County Sheriff's Office: Services for the late Timothy L. Carpenter, 49, of West Milford will be private. Visitation is Tuesday.

Carpenter, who died Tuesday, is survived by his wife, Pamela, his children: daughters Summer Carpenter and Nicolette Carpenter, and Ryan Layton and his wife, Kira, and siblings: Brett Carpenter and his wife, Angie, Jimmy Carpenter and his wife, Dalia, Michelle Millender and her husband, Norman, and Scott Carpenter and his wife, Tara, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family will receive visitors on 3 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Stickle-Soltesz Funeral Home, 187 La Rue Road, Newfoundland, parallel to Route 23 North between Clinton Road and Union Valley Road (GPS: Use 1 Post Place).

He was predeceased by his mother, Nicolette (nee Groenevelt), in 1995 and his father, Robert, in 2009.

Born on Nov. 11, 1968 in Red Bank, Carpenter was graduated from Indian Hills High School in Oakland.

Following his military service, he continued his education at William Paterson College, where he studied criminal justice.

Carpenter was long a member of the Passaic County Sheriff's mounted unit, created the SLAP program and was commander for various shifts.

He was also active in the PBA, which called him "a leader with a true heart of gold with unlimited support of his officers."
