Democrats Sweep Passaic County Freeholder Race

PATERSON, N.J. — A newcomer was the the leading vote-getter as Democrats grabbed all three seats on the Passaic County Board of Chosen Freeholders on Tuesday.

With 99% of the ballots counted as of Wednesday morning, Cassandra Lazzara received 27,658 votes, followed by incumbent Freeholders Hector Lora, with 26,986, and John Bartlett, had 27,034.

Republican candidates Joseph S. Cupoli, Joan M. Walsh and Sami T. Merhi finished out of the running.

Bartlett and Luna joined the board in 2012.

DEM - CASSANDRA LAZZARA: 27,658 votes, 17.95 percent

DEM - HECTOR LORA: 26,986 votes, 17.51 percent

DEM - JOHN BARTLETT: 27,034 votes, 17.54 percent

REP - JOSEPH S. CUPOLI: 24,579 votes, 15.95 percent

REP - JOAN M. WALSH: 24,920 votes, 16.17 percent

REP - SAMI T. MERHI: 22,940 votes, 14.88 percent
