PATERSON, N.J. – City officials are hoping to spend an extra $5 million in 2016 to bring the Paterson Police Department to full staff for the first time in several years, northjersey.com reported.

Citing “top-ranking Paterson law enforcement officials,” the story said the city’s goal is hire 21 police officers for regular duty, increasing the size of the force to 403. That number still would be far fewer than the 519 officers it had before layoffs in 2011, the story said.
