An Amityville man is accused of dealing cocaine and injuring five police officers while resisting arrest, Nassau County detectives announced on Wednesday, April 23.
Joseph N. Jones, 35, was caught selling a white powdery substance believed to be cocaine during an investigation in the parking lot of 6207 Sunrise Highway in Massapequa Park at 9:04 p.m., on Monday, April 21, detectives said.

Jason Funderburke, 38, of Hempstead, was found guilty of robbery and related offenses in Suffolk County Court Wednesday, March 12, in connection with the August 2023 attack.
Funderburke and an unnamed accomplice approached Joseph Slinger outside his Slinger-Hasgill Funeral Home, located in Amityville on Sunrise Highway, at around 11:30 a.m. on Aug. 29, 2023, according to prosecutors.

A man and his dog were both struck and killed while walking on a busy Long Island street.
The incident happened in Amityville, near the intersection of Broadway and Loudon Avenue, at around 6:30 a.m. Wednesday, Oct. 30.
Suffolk County Police said the victim was walking his dog when they were struck by an Acura heading northbound on Broadway.
The victim, identified as 52-year-old Roy Mathes, of Amityville, was taken to Good Samaritan University Hospital in West Islip, where he was pronounced dead, police said. His dog died at the scene.
