Heads Up: Lane Closures Planned For Portion Of Long Island Expressway In Brookhaven
Scheduled roadwork may slow you down this week.
Both directions of the Long Island Expressway will undergo overnight lane closures in the towns of Brookhaven, Islip, and Smithtown, beginning Tuesday night, Dec. 17.
In Brookhaven, the westbound left and HOV lanes of I-495 will close between exit 64 (State Route 112) and exit 62 (Nicholls Road) from 10 p.m. Tuesday until 5 a.m. the following morning, according to transportation officials.
During that time, the eastbound HOV lane will also be closed between 63 (North Ocean Avenue and exit 64.

Fatal Crash: 36-Year-Old Medford Man ID'd As Victim In Bellport After Being Struck By F-150
A man crossing a busy Long Island roadway was killed after being struck by a pickup truck.
It happened just before 7 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 7 in Bellport.
The victim was crossing Montauk Highway on foot from north to south, between Doane Avenue and Michigan Avenue, when he was struck by an eastbound 2013 Ford F-150 Raptor, Suffolk County Police said.
The man, identified as Elmer Mendoza, age 36, of Medford, was pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver of the F-150, a 59-year-old Brookhaven man, was not injured.

ATV Crash: 26-Year-Old In Critical Condition, Suspect Charged With DWI After Long Island Wreck
A Long Island man is facing DWI charges after he allegedly caused an ATV crash that sent a 26-year-old woman to the hospital.
The crash happened at around 8 p.m. Saturday, June 10, in Brookhaven, on Bellport Avenue near Louise Avenue.
Suffolk County Police said Tayquan Mayodunmore, age 29, of Bellport, was driving the ATV while intoxicated when the vehicle overturned.
The crash caused his passenger, Jessilyn Johnson, of Medford, to strike her head on the pavement, police said.
She was taken by police helicopter to Stony Brook University Hospital in critical condition.

Eighteen people are facing charges in a 148-count indictment following a long-term investigation into gang-related robberies, thefts, and a murder committed on Long Island.
Suffolk County District Attorney Raymond Tierney announced the indictment of alleged members of the "No Fake Love" gang, also known as "NFL," on Monday, Dec. 12.
Tierney said the investigation involved 31 separate incidents, including the murder of Jorge Mauricio Sevilla Barrera in December of 2021.
