School Bus Ride Turns Deadly: Nurse Charged In Death Of NJ 19-Year-Old Disabled Man
A 29-year-old licensed nurse has been arrested following the death of a disabled man after a school bus ride in Morris County, authorities said. Emelio J. Rivera, of Carlstadt, was charged with second-degree endangerment and neglect of a disabled person, Morris County Prosecutor Robert J. Carroll said Thursday, Nov. 2. The charges stem from an East Hanover incident on Friday, Feb. 10 in which the victim, Matthew Rossi, 19, had just arrived home on his school bus. Driver In NJ Turnpike Crash Under the Influence, State Police Charge
A driver was under the influence of drugs when he crashed his sedan on the New Jersey Turnpike in Bergen County, State Police said. The 24-year-old driver from Staten Island was headed south on the western spur in Carlstadt when he crashed his Lexus NX at 5:44 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 20, NJSP Sergeant First Class Philip Curry said. Firefighters extricated the driver, who refused medical attention at the scene, the sergeant said. State Police charged him with DUI and issued several motor vehicle summonses, he said.

A Jersey City driver who had no license or registration when she was stopped by Carlstadt police got back into her SUV, locked the doors and then crashed into a parked car when she tried to drive off, authorities said. Fears of a possibly trapped resident proved unfounded during an overnight house fire in East Rutherford. First-floor residents were vacating the two-family home on Rose Street near Paterson Avenue as first responders arrived at 2:35 a.m., Police Capt. Jeff Yannacone said. A search determined there was no one home upstairs, where the two-alarm kitchen fire originated, he said. Firefighters had the fire doused in under a half hour. No injuries were reported.
