Canadian Wildfire Smoke Drifts Into Northeast Triggering Air Quality Alerts
With summer-like heat moving in, health officials have issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for much of New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and the Philadelphia metro area on Wednesday, June 4 (scroll down to check your town's air quality index).
The alerts, in effect from 11 a.m. to 11 p.m., warn that ground-level ozone pollution could reach unhealthy levels for sensitive groups, including children, the elderly, and those with heart or lung disease, authorities in each state said. Click here to see today's air quality forecast.

CT Doctor Accused Of Child Sex Exploitation Dies By Suicide, Officials Say
A Connecticut rheumatology chief arrested following a child exploitation investigation has died by suicide, according to the Chief Medical Examiner's Office.
John Magaldi, age 61, address unknown, the chief of Hartford HealthCare rheumatology at the Bone & Joint Institute, died from a gunshot wound to the head, the medical examiner's office confirmed on Friday, March 15.
Magaldi was charged in New Haven County by Meriden Police and the Federal Bureau of Investigation on Monday, March 11 for allegedly seeking sexual activity with children, the Meriden Police said.

Stop & Shop Hosting Career Fair In Fairfield County Filling Hundreds Of Jobs
Supermarket chain Stop & Shop will host a one-day career fair to fill hundreds of open positions at its Connecticut stores on Saturday, Sept. 23.
On-the-spot interviews will be held at 34 locations across Fairfield, New Haven, and Litchfield counties for permanent, part-time store and e-commerce positions, the company announced.
Pay starts at $15 an hour, including union positions in the bakery, deli, grocery, seafood, produce, and pharmacy departments.

CT Congressional Race With National Implications For Party Control Is 'ThisClose'
The race for Connecticut's 5th Congressional District between Democratic US Rep. Jahana Hayes and Republican challenger George Logan is still too close to call, with the results containing national implications for which party will control Congress.

William O’Shaughnessy, a broadcasting pioneer in New York, died at his home in Connecticut on Saturday, May 28. He was 84.
O'Shaughnessy was owner and president of Whitney Radio, which owns and operates WVOX in Westchester County.
A 1999 New York Times profile described O'Shaughnessy as "a flamboyant figure, a tall man with bright silver hair and a penchant for London-made suits and Corvette convertibles."
He was born April 7, 1938 to William Mac O’Shaughnessy of Elmira and Catherine Pauline Tucker of Waverly, according to his obituary.
