A teen stranded on a personal watercraft in the marshes off Merrick had to be rescued by Nassau County police after conditions worsened as the tide receded, authorities announced on Saturday, June 14. The 15-year-old boy had been riding in the waters south of Merrick with a 35-year-old man when both of their watercrafts ran aground around 2:04 p.m. on Friday, June 13, according to police. Authorities are asking for help in locating a missing teenager from Long Island. Cheyne Shim, 15, was last seen near Sunrise Highway in Merrick at around 4:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 13, according to Nassau County Police. Shim is 5-foot-7 and 150 pounds, with brown hair and brown eyes.
