If the air feels a little heavier today, you're not imagining it.
A health advisory for elevated air pollution levels remains in effect through 11 p.m. today, Wednesday, June 25, across much of the Hudson Valley, New York City, Long Island, and parts of the lower Hudson region.
The alert, issued by the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation, includes Westchester, Rockland, and all five boroughs, as well as Nassau and Suffolk counties. Air quality across New Jersey and New York is expected to be unhealthy for sensitive groups on Thursday, June 12, as temperatures climb into the 90s and Code Orange Alerts are in effect.
Health officials say that ground-level ozone and fine particulates will combine with heat to pose risks for children, seniors, and people with heart or lung conditions.

With summer-like heat moving in, health officials have issued a Code Orange Air Quality Alert for much of New Jersey, New York, Connecticut, and the Philadelphia metro area on Wednesday, June 4 (scroll down to check your town's air quality index).

In response to a rise in school swatting attacks across the country, including in the Hudson Valley, US Rep. Mike Lawler is introducing legislation that would increase the prison term for those who threaten students.

NY Thruway Toll Increase Approved: Here's How Much More You'll Pay, When It Will Take Effect
Motorists who travel on the New York Thruway will soon face an increase in toll rates, officials announced.
The toll adjustments, which will be the first system-wide increase in 14 years, were announced by the New York Thruway Authority on Monday, Sept. 18, and follow a 10-month-long public process.

A New York State Police K9 deserves some extra treats after reportedly helping troopers uncover nearly a dozen guns and drugs during a traffic stop in the region.
In Sullivan County, a State Police trooper stopped Tyquan Robinson, age 32, of New York City, at around 8 p.m. Thursday, July 20, as he drove on Route 17 in the Town of Rockland.
According to State Police, Robinson initially lied about his name and age.

The threat of severe weather from an approaching round of thunderstorms has just been upgraded for most of the region.
Storm activity is expected from west to east from 6 p.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, April 1.
