Vehicle Fire On LIE Closes All Eastbound Lanes, Traffic Backed All The Way To Queens All lanes of the Long Island Expressway eastbound were closed at Exit 34 in North Hills on Friday morning, Oct. 2 A vehicle fire forced the closure, according to the Nassau County Police Department. Motorists were asked to find an alternate route. Traffic cameras showed all vehicles being diverted onto Exit 34 toward New Hyde Park Road. The vehicle fire itself could not be seen on the cameras. Cars and trucks were backed up for more than five miles on the LIE, according to NY511 live traffic updates. The jam extended all the way back to I-295, the Clearview Parkway, in Queens.
